What does color-point mean?
The Himalayan is one of the most popular of all Persians. The Himalayan is shown in the following point colors: chocolate, seal, lilac, blue, red, cream tortie, blue-cream, chocolate-tortie, lilac-cream, seal lynx, blue lynx, red lynx, cream lynx, tortie lynx, blue-cream lynx, chocolate lynx, lilac lynx, chocolate-tortie lynx and lilac-cream lynx. Color is restricted to the facial mask and extremities with the body of various shades of white to fawn. Himalayans were developed by breeding Persians to Siamese to combine the Siamese point coloring with Persian type.
What is a color point carrier (CPC)?
A color point carrier is a cat that carries the genetics to produce color point kittens, (Himalayans). A white kitten, when it is born, will have small splotches of the color it is masking on it's head.
What is a Himalayan?
Persians and Himalayan are the same breed. A Persian and a Siamese were bred to produce the long flowing, color pointed coat of the Himalayan. They also retain the deep blue eyes of the Siamese.
What is a lynx point Himalayan?Lynx point refers to ringlets and stripes on the tail and paws. The face has the tabby "M" on the forehead, white eye liner and patches of white under the nose. The color of the striping and nose color determines what the point color is.
What is an exotic longhair Persian?This medium to large sized cat, 8 to 14 pounds, has a broad, massive head, the cheeks are very full and round. The Exotic Longhairs are known for their luxurious coats, topped by big, round eyes and tiny,rounded ears, this cat always seems to be wearing a sweet and loving expression.
The Exotic Longhair looks almost identical to the Persian, the main difference is genetic. The Exotic Longhair is a cross between a Persian and a domestic shorthair cat. Like the Persian, the Exotic Longhair has a thick coat that requires frequent grooming.
What is a Tabby Persian?
There are four types of tabby patterns, classic, mackerel and patched.
The classic tabby has swirls and a bulls-eye on the sides of the body. It also has a "butterfly" pattern across the shoulders that lead into thick lines down the spine.
The mackerel tabby is defined by stripes instead of swirls. The spine lines are thinner and the stripes run from the spine to the belly.
All of the patterns above can also be combined with red and or cream to create a patched tabby. The patched tabby will have splotches of red or cream scattered throughout the tabby pattern.
How long is a Persian pregnant?
Gestation is approximately 63 days, give or take a few days. About 21 days into the pregnancy, she will begin "pinking up", meaning her nipples will turn pink. At about 50 days the kittens will begin to move around. Now she will begin to search for a nesting spot, looking in dark closets and sometimes your dresser drawers.
